I am always very vocal in my support for Flickr. I love that little bastard of a photography/social media site and I’m not afraid to admit it.
The rest of the world, however, might beg to differ. Yahoo has gone to shit and it’s doing it’s best to take the few good services it owns (Flickr, Tumblr, and a few other decent sites) down with it. Most of the world hears the name Flickr and thinks something along the lines of, “She’s dead, Jim.”
But is it? Is it dying out or is it coming back to life? Over the last couple of days I have seen something that makes me think it might not be as dead as most of us fear.
What have I seen?
Yes, in the last few days my account has been followed by a couple of real live (robot) porn spam accounts. I block them, but they keep coming. Now if Flickr really was a dying service, would the porn bots be wasting time infesting it? I don’t think so. Well, if I’m being honest with myself I’d say yes they would waste their time because they are porn spam bots, what difference does it make? But the optimist in me likes to think that if some porn spam generating service is taking the time to porn spam Flickr, then it must mean there is enough traffic to warrant targeting the service.
